1. Complete the text with the words from the box. [Teenagers, advertisements, channel, regular, operas, football, watch,
programmes, television]

Most teenagers watch much of 1)television, but usually there are periods in the
year where they watch more than average. This is due to 2) coming on in
seasons, so they will watch a particular show at a certain time for a number of weeks
as long as it lasts, but then they may 3)
no television for weeks after the
programme has ended. Teenage boys generally watch more TV when it is the 4)
season, often watching two games and related shows a week (about 5 hours of
viewing). A portion of teenagers watches programmes that are 5)
(such as
soap 6) ) at least five times a week for half hour or so but this portion is
getting smaller, as it is hard to find the time each day.
7)
also watch less television because of services such as BBC iPlayer,
which allows them to watch shows when they want. As we know, on TV, 8)
come on quite regularly (18 minutes of every hour) and teenagers do not want to
watch these, so they switch to another 9)
or do something else while the
adverts run

he and my mother split up. He must have wanted the best for me, but the best was always what he wanted. He chose my school and I hated it. I had no friends there, I was miserable and didn't do well, so I was asked to leave. He must have been very disappointed, but he said nothing to me. He wanted me to be an actor like him but I'm not at all like him. I tried it for a while, but I was miserable until I met my husband. He's a vet and I'm his assistant. Now I'm doing what I always wanted to do, working with animals. My father and I have always been so different. I love animals and he loves books and music, and above all opera, which I hate. If he comes to see us (we live on a farm), he always wears totally the wrong clothes, but we still don't see much of each other. It’s because he didn't really want me to marry George. He wanted me to marry a famous film star or something, but of course I didn’t. George and I don't want children, we have our animals, but my father would love to have a grandson. Maybe his new wife will give him the son he wants, but probably not. She cares too much about being slim and beautiful. I occasionally see one of his films on TV. I find it hard to believe he's my father. He is like a stranger.

y first wife and I only had one child. It might have been nice to have more. I would have liked a son, but we just had Carmen. I see her as my best friend. I think she always comes to me first if she has a problem. We have the same sense of humour and share many interests, except that she's crazy about animals, obsessed with them - she has always had dogs, cats, and horses in her life. We were closest when she was about four, which I think is a wonderful age for a child. That's when they need their parents most. But as soon as Carmen went to school, she seemed to grow up and grow apart from her family, and any father finds it difficult with a teenage daughter. She was very moody and had an odd group of friends. There was an endless stream of strange young men coming to our house. I remember I once got annoyed with her in front of her friends and she didn't the and my mother split up. He must have wanted the best for me, but the best was always what he wanted. Tigers are the largest members of the cat family and are renowned for their power and strength.there were eight tiger subspecies at one time, but three became extinct during the 20th century.  over the last 100 years, hunting and forest destruction have reduced tiger populations from hundreds of thousands of animals to perhaps fewer than 2,500.tigers are hunted as trophies, and also for body parts that are used in traditional chinese medicine.  all five remaining tiger subspecies are endangered, and many protection programs are in place.bengal tigers live in india and are sometimes called indian tigers.they are the most common tiger and number about half of all wild tigers.  over many centuries they have become an important part of indian tradition and lore.tigers live alone and aggressively scent-mark large territories to keep their rivals away.  they are powerful nocturnal hunters that travel many miles to find buffalo, deer, wild pigs, and other large mammals.  tigers use their distinctive coats as camouflage (no two have exactly the same stripes).  they lie in wait and creep close enough to attack their victims with a quick spring and a fatal pounce.  a hungry tiger can eat as much as 60 pounds (27 kilograms) in one night, though they usually eat less.despite their fearsome reputation, most tigers avoid humans; however, a few do become dangerous maneaters.  these animals are often sick and unable to hunt normally, or live in an area where their traditional prey has vanished.females give birth to litters of two to six cubs, which they raise with little or no help from the male.  cubs cannot hunt until they are 18 months old and remain with their mothers for two to three years, when they disperse to find their own territory.
