Women and girls are more likely than men to suffer from eating disorders. Men and boys according to various estimates ranging from 5 to 15 percent of patients with anorexia or bulimia and an estimated 35 percent of people who suffer from overeating. Eating disorders are real, treatable disease with complex psychological and biological causes. They often co-exist with other psychiatric disorders such as depression, substance abuse, or anxiety disorders. People with eating disorders also can suffer from numerous physiological complications, such as heart disease or kidney failure, which can lead to death.
