New York City - the largest city in the U.S. and one of the largest cities in the world. Population of 8,363,710 people (2010), with the suburbs - 20.61 million located on the Atlantic coast in the south-eastern part of the State of New York. New York was founded in the early XVII century Dutch colonists. Until 1664 the town was called "New Amsterdam."
New York City comprises five boroughs: The Bronx, Brooklyn, Queens, Manhattan and Staten Island. The main attractions are located in Manhattan. Among them: the historic skyscrapers (the Empire State Building, Chrysler Building), Rockefeller Center, Woolworth Building, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Metropolitan Opera, the Museum of Modern Art Guggenheim (painting), the American Museum of Natural History (skeletons of dinosaurs and planetarium), the legendary hotel "Chelsea", the UN headquarters, Harlem.
New York - a major world financial, political, economic and cultural center.
