С исчисляемыми существительными:

С неисчисляемыми существительными:

A lot of snow falls in winter
Зимой выпадает много снега

Зимой выпадает много снега

Наречие "a lot" значит "очень часто" или "очень много". Зачастую оно ставится в конце предложения и никогда перед существительным:

I like basketball a lot
Мне очень нравится баскетбол

She's a lot happier now than she was
