The clock tower is 318 feet high. You have to go up 374 steps to reach the top. So the clock looks small from the pavement below the tower.
But its face is 23 feet wide. It would only just fit into some classrooms.
The minute-hand is 14 feet long. Its weight is equal to that of two bags of coal. The hour-hand is 9 feet long.
The clock bell is called Big Ben after Sir Benjamin Hall. He had the job to see that the bell was put up.
Sir Benjamin was a big man. One day he said in Parliament, "Shall we call the bell St. Stephen's?" St. Stephen's is the name of the tower.
But someone said for a joke, "Why not call it Big Ben?" Now the bell is known all over the world by that name.
Finally me and Christopher Columbus have made it to America. When we first saw people there, we were very surprised. They did a lot of exciting things, like hunting for buffalo. They wore clothing different from ours, and spoke a different language. Still we could somehow find a common language, and they offered to play ball together in sign of peace. We had a lot of fun together, and we felt they are good people. Then they showed us the land they use to farm, as well as the fishermen, horsemen, and hunters that were around there. They collected plants and nuts for their clan.
It seems that they lived in something called teepees. They looked quite different from our houses.
Coming to America here for the first time feels amazing. It is like a whole new world, filled with different kinds of people. I think we can work together with the native americans here to create a bright future for this new land.
