The Swallow
Swallows are small birds with glossy blue-black backs, brown-red throats, pale underparts and long forked tails.
The most common species of swallows are barn swallows. They can fly very fast and spend most of their time flying. These birds build cup nests from mud in barns or similar structures and feed on insects caught in flight. Swallows are particularly fond of open pasture with access to water and quiet farm buildings.
Swallows are found in Europe, Asia, Africa and the Americas. In winter they migrate to the south.
People see swallows as an early sign of summer's approach and there are a lot of poems mentioning this species. A swallow's nest built in the eaves of a house is considered to be extremely good luck bringing success, good fortune and happiness. And to remove a swallow's nest is said to bring sadness and loss into the home.

Самый распространенный вид ласточек - деревенские ласточки. Они летают очень быстро и большую часть времени проводят в полетах.
Эти птицы строят гнезда чашевидной формы из грязи в сараях или подобных сооружениях и питаются насекомыми, пойманными в полете. Ласточки особенно любят открытые пастбища с доступом к воде и с тихими хозпостройками.
Ласточки встречаются в Европе, Азии, Африке и Америке. Зимой они мигрируют на юг.
Люди считают ласточек приметой скорого наступления лета, и есть много стихов, упоминающих этот вид птиц. Считается, что гнездо ласточки, построенное под крышей дома, принесет успех, удачу и счастье. А разрушение ласточкиного гнезда приносит в дом печаль и убыток.
