Some people believe that having a hero is useful. Others stat that it is childish.
Children are genius creations in my opinion. I am one of those weird people who admires them more than adults. I like the way they are able to think freely, to express themselves in the way they want and to follow examples they think are better for them. Every child has a hero, an example he admires and follows in everything he does. Usually it is his mother or father, with rare exceptions including thei grandparents, friends or random acquintances. Nevertheless, boys use to set as their hero a mystical character they've encountered in books or seen on TV, like Superman, Batman, Spiderman and so on. These fictional heros are good as well in my opinion, as children will learn to be brave and help others. It is a much bigger problem if they find a hero in a negative character as it will develop some negative parts of a children's behaviour. Having a hero will motivate a child to become someone and acquire the features that will soon form his behaviour. From this point of view, I think that adults should set an example for themselves as well. I believe this will encourage them to do things better, to compete in order to achieve their goals and to change their nature in a better way. So, I don't think that having a hero is childish and we totally shouldn't avoid it, thinking that we are too mature for this. That being said I think we as adults have a lot to learn from children. Not only that they are free to do whatever they want, they are also following great examples that will help them become one day an example as well.
