When he was ready to kill the boy, Allah became convinced of his loyalty and ordered him to send a lamb as an atoning sacrifice. Hence the ceremony, every devout Muslim on this day sacrifices a sheep or a lamb. The meat is used for the family's festive meal, the rest is distributed to the poor.
