Kate greeted Akmaral and said that she was writing to him/her to tell him/her about their stay in Washington, DC.She said that he/she had asked her to write about the US capital and added that she was doing it in that letter. She continued that they really loved the city, it was so green and so clean. She added that it is(was) situated on the Potomac River, on a piece of land called the District of Columbia, people called the US capital Washington, D.C.She explained that it was not the biggest city in the United States, but it was the most important. She informed that the buildings were not very tall, the streets and avenues were straight, green and beautiful. She said that the longest and the biggest avenues were named after American states. She said that they had already done the centre of the city. She explained that they had been to the White House and seen the Capitol. She said that the Capitol was really great, that was where the United States Congress meets (можно не изменять это общепринятый факт ) and makes laws. She said that the building of the White House was very beautiful with tall columns and the flag on the roof.It is (was) the US president's residence. She explained that (was) is where the president lives (lived) and works(worked). It is(was) one of the famous buildings in the world. She explained that its name came from the fact that it is a white house. Tourists couldn't see the part where the president lived but they could see the Red Room, the Blue Room and the Green Room and some other rooms. By the way, the city was famous for its museums. She said that she had been to the Natural History Museum but hadn't seen the others yet .

Each country has its own traditions of cooking and national dishes. Russia is mainly a northern country with harsh winters, so food there is the source of energy and warmth. The essential components of Russian cuisine are bread and wheat products, vegetables, dairy produce, meat and fish. Russians usually have three meals a day: breakfast, dinner and supper. Breakfast is a quick meal, as the majority of people are in a hurry for work or school. It may contain a sandwich or two, an omelette, a cup of tea or coffee. Some people eat porridges or cornflakes in the morning. Dinner is a more sufficient meal. It is usually in the afternoon and may contain fresh salad, soup, main course and a glass of compote – stewed fruit drink. Typical Russian soups are shchi, solyanka, rassolnik, ukha. One of the people’s favourites in summer is okroshka – cold soup based on kvas or sour milk. Traditional Russian salads include Olivier and vinegret. Supper is served in the evening, when everybody comes home after work or studies. It is the second largest meal after dinner and it usually consists of the main course and dessert. Russians like meat and fish dishes, such as pelmeni, kotlety, shashlyk. Pelmeni are similar to dumplings with meat. Kotlety are like meatballs with spices. Shashlyk is a marinated meat grilled on a skewer. After nourishing dinner Russian people like to drink hot tea with jam or honey. Sometimes they cook blini or syrniki for the dessert. It is worth mentioning that Russians practice various techniques of preserving food, such as drying mushrooms and herbs, canning fruit and vegetables. Thus, in winter they can have a piece of summer goodies.
