In mid-December in the squares of cities begins the installation of New Year trees. The main Christmas tree of the country is in Minsk on October Square. Every year, a grandiose show "The Main Christmas Tree of the Country" is held for children. The New Year's fairy tale with dances, songs and round dances begins its preparation in June. Creators every year embody new ideas in the show, enrich it with laser shows and 3D effects. The festive action gathers tens of thousands of children from different parts of Belarus and neighboring countries.
Traditions and customsBelarusians believe that you will meet the New Year, so it will pass. They try to celebrate this holiday cheerfully and magnificently. People surround themselves with the closest and beloved people, distribute debts, forgive offenses. On New Year's Eve they wear the best outfits. Since that period, traditions have been established to organize New Year feasts, decorate the Christmas tree, dance dances and fireworks.
The official holiday of the New Year was in 1948, when Belarus was part of the USSR. During the Soviet era, most of the New Year traditions and customs were formed, which have survived to this day.

In Belarus, the children bring gifts to Grandfather Frost with her assistant - the granddaughter Snow Maiden. This character is often called the St. Nicholas (Holy Mikola).
