An Englishman, who had never been to France before, decided to spend
his holiday there. After he had visited some beautiful French towns and
seen a lot there he wanted to go back to England as his holiday was coming
to an end. The Englishman found that he had only enough money to pay his fare. As he knew that the trip had been taking him only about two days he thought that he could live without food those two days. So he bought a ticket and got on the ship. At 2 o’clock the Englishman went out of his cabin and heard that the bell for dinner was ringing but he did not go to the restaurant although he was very hungry. When it was getting dark a waiter came to his cabin to invite him to supper but the Englishman said that he did not feel well. The next day when lunch time had come the Englishman thought: “l will go to the restaurant and eat even if they to throw me into the sea.” When he came into the restaurant a lot of passengers were already having lunch. Some of them were eating roast-beef with vegetables, other passengers were eating fish. The Englishman hurried to one of the tables. He ate all the waiter had put in front of him. In the evening when the ship was not far from London the Englishman had had supper and asked the waiter to bring him the bill for his meals. “What bill“, sir? You have already paid for your meals.” "But when?”, asked  the Englishman. “You paid for your meals when you had bought the
ticket,” was the reply.
