live in Krasnodar, which is a large city in the south region of Russia. My family is not big. It’s just me, my parents and my grandma. The school, which I attend, is situated in a walking distance from us. My teacher, Olga Vladimirovna, often organizes school trips to other cities. Last year, we went to Saint-Petersburg for three days. It was during the holidays in May. Since then, I fell in love with this city. I’ve realized that it’s the most beautiful place I’ve ever seen. I know that there are many other nice cities in our country and abroad, but none as charming as Saint-Petersburg. Perhaps, the first thing that I noticed, when we arrived, was the unique architecture. The second eye-catching thing is the abundance of bridges across the river Neva. I can hardly distinguish which building or bridge was the best, as they are all magnificent. The Winter Palace was undoubtedly one of the most beautiful structures. I also liked the Nikolaevskiy Palace and the Savior on the Spilled Blood Cathedral. I regret that we had so little time to see all the sights, but we managed to visit Peterhof, which reminded me a kingdom of fountains, and Tsarskoe Selo. Peterhof was built on the orders of Peter the Great - the remarkable person, who ruled the country in the 17th and 18th centuries. Saint-Petersburg was even named after him and all the glorious architecture, which can now be seen in the city, is his merit. During his reign, best European masters were invited to erect the palaces, cathedrals, mansions, bridges and noble monuments. Unfortunately, we didn’t see the famous White Nights of Saint Petersburg, as they take place in June. But that’s a good reason to visit my favourite city one more time
Kolomna is a very picturesque and quiet town. It’s cozy and clean. The town is situated on the banks of three rivers: the Oka, the Moskva and the Kolomenka. Kolomna is not far from Moscow, it is one of the biggest towns in Moscow Region. Its population is about 200 thousand people.
Kolomna is mysteriously ancient and strikingly modern at the same time. The town was founded in 1177. The Old Kolomna is a must-see part of the town: it has much to remember and much to tell. The Kremlin was built in the 16th century and had 17 towers, 7 of which have been preserved up to present. Marinkina Tower is one of them. It made of brick. Tower’s height is thirty-one meters. Its diameter is eleven meters. Many years ago this tower had another name – Kolomenskaya. In 1611-1612 Marina Mnishek lived in Kolomna. She was Lzhedmitriy the first’s wife and then she was Lzhedmitriy the second’s wife. After expulsion of Poles from Moscow she had been shut up in the Tower, where she dead. So people have named this tower Marinkina Tower. There are a lot of monuments inside the Kremlin. Kolomna is famous for its churches and cathedrals: the Resurrection Church, the Assumption Cathedral, Tikhvinskaya Church, the Novo-Golutvin Monastery, the Brusensky Convent and so on. Each of them has its own history.
The people of Kolomna are proud of their famous compatriots such as Russian novelist Ivan Ivanovich Lazhechnikov. He run away from his home to the French War when he was a young man. After that he wrote the book “The recruit of 1812”. 48 people of Kolomna were decorated with medals in the years of the Great Patriotic War. 14,000 people died in the war with fascism. In the centre of the town the eternal flame was erected in honour of these people.
It takes you only 15 minutes to get from the old part of our town to the new one, where there are lots of places to play, to see, to eat, to shop and to go after dark.
Sport plays a big part in the life of Kolomna. The town has many sports clubs and the Ice Palace, one of the biggest in Europe. There are a lot of stadiums in our town: for example, Avangard, Trud etc. The town has many parks; in the centre of Kolomna is Park of Peace. Also it has a lot of cinemas: Vostok, Rus, Gorizont, for example. There are many supermarkets and shops, restaurants, bars and cafes. Kolomna is an important industrial centre of Moscow Region. It has two heavy engineering plants and several factories.
Kolomna is a town of students. There are two research institutes, four institutes of higher education, medical and machine building colleges, and three professional technical colleges.
In conclusion, I’d like to say that Kolomna is a fascinating town brimming with history, culture, sport and whole range of attractions. I think, it is becoming more beautiful and its people are proud of their town.
