Last spring the Stewarts visited a small town in the north-west of England, in the Lake District. Old Mrs. Stewart, Henry’s mother’ lives there. The place is very nice with (a lot of) forests and (some) low mountains. The town is clean and cosy with (a lot of) green trees. There aren’t ( many) shops there. The shops are usually very small and very (few) people work there. “Are there ( many) cinemas here, dad?” Henry’s daughter wanted to know. Her father said there were (some). Old Mrs. Stewart lives near the river. There is ( little) water in the river in summer, but there are (a lot of) beautiful lakes with (a lot of) water in the forest. Old Mrs. Stewart’s house isn’t big. It hasn’t got ( many) rooms in it. There are very ( few) big houses in the town. They are usually hotels. In June, July and August (a lot of people come here to spend their holidays in this wonderful place.

The foundation of the colossal St. Isaak`s cathedral produced many problems because of the soft soil. The construction of the cathedral lasted forty years and was finished in 1858. The French architect Monferrand erected the 101.5 meter building. The interior space of it reaches 4000 square meters.
