The UK lies on a boundary between warm tropical air and cold polar air. Large temperature variations create instability and this is the major reason for the UK’s often unsettled weather. In the UK many types of weather can_1in a single day.

Regional climates in the UK are influenced by latitude and the Atlantic Ocean. The western regions, being closest to the Ocean, are the mildest, wettest and_2parts of the country.

Eastern areas are generally drier, cooler, and 3 windy but subject to greater temperature variations. Northern areas are cooler, wetter and have a smaller temperature range than southern areas.

The UK is a relatively small landmass with an awful lot of weather! Officially it “enjoys” a climate of mixed status — Oceanic, Temperate and Temperate Maritime. Is it any wonder that the British enjoy_4 the weather?

Can you imagine a February afternoon in Novisibirsk with people discussing over tea whether there_5 sunshine or rain during the evening? A continental climate is generally very predictable.

Everybody in the UK 6 about Siberian winters. So much so that many wrongly believe that there is no such thing as a Siberian Summer.

The idea of “sunbathing” and Siberia”7 in the same sentence is nonsense to them! Then again, many Russians seem to believe the myth that the UK is always shrouded in rain and fog. Possibly Dickens is to blame for this delusion! But it is true that the British like talking about the weather. Well — at least we do have something to talk about.

 I have recently graduated from my high school and entered the Kazan Medical College. It is one of the best colleges in the city. Besides, I have always wanted to study medicine after school. I really like this college and some of my close friends have also applied to study here. My parents have always wanted me to be a lawyer, but I have made up my mind to become a medical assistant or a nurse. The entrance exams included Biology and Russian and I passed both of them with excellent marks. I am delighted to study such subjects as Anatomy, Latin, English, Nursing, Genetics, Pharmacology, Microbiology, Physical Education and else. Our college is rather well equipped. There is a large sports ground outside and one gym inside. There is also a huge library with a good choice of medical books. Actually, this college is one of the oldest educational institutions in the city and in Russia. It was founded in 1837. At first it was simply a paramedic school. After the revolution the first Soviet midwifery school was based here. In 1954 the school received the status of Kazan basic medical college. Today, the college provides basic and advanced training in such specialties as dentistry, midwifery, paramedics, pharmacy, laboratory diagnosis, and some other branches. In addition, each year the college provides postgraduate training for nurses. I’m very proud to be a student of this college. Today, Kazan Medical College is one of the most prestigious and reliable institutions in the city. Thousands of young people can get decent education in healthcare area at this college.
