The very first railways used horses for drawing trains. In England rails were first laid in the Newcastle district. In 1823 George Stephenson, English inventor and engineer established a factory at Newcastle to build steam locomotives. In 1829 Stephenson together with his son Robert designed a successful steam locomotive which he called the "Rocket". Its speed was 29 km/h. The main parts of the locomotives were a boiler, a fire-box, a chimney, a blast pipe, two cylinders with pistons, six wheels, and two big driving wheels. The first passenger railway in England was the railway from Liverpool to Manchester. In 1829 Shillibear started the first bus service in London. In 1885 the first buses with petrol engine appeared in London.
