William Shakespeare (1564-1616). English famous poet and playwright. He wrote 38 plays and 154 sonnets. William Shakespeare was born in Stratford-upon-Avon on 23rd April 1564. His father William was a successful local businessman, and his mother Mary was the daughter of a landowner.
His wife’s name was Anne Hathaway. They had three children, Susanna, Hamnet and Juliet. Their only son Hamnet died aged just 11. His works: Twelfth Night, Henry V, Romeo and Juliet, Lady Macbeth, Hamlet, King Lear, Othello
Charles Dickens (1812 – 1870) was born in Portsmouth on 7 February 1812. His parents were John and Elizabeth Dickens. Charles Dickens was novelist. He created some of the most memorable characters in English Literature. Novels included Oliver Twist, Great Expectations and David Copperfield.
Agatha Christie was an English writer of crime and romantic novels. She is best remembered for her detective stories including the two diverse characters of Miss Marple and Hercule Poirot. Her books are the bestsellers of all time. She wrote 78 crime novels, 19 plays and 6 romantic novels under the name of Mary Westmacott. Her first work was The Mysterious Affair at Styles, (1920).
