the orange tree is an evergreen tree which bears one of the most deli-
cious fruits and one of the prettiest blossoms of any plant or tree. the fruit.
a round golden globe, is botanically a berry. the pure white, sweet-smelling
flower is a favourite in bride's bouquets and has been made the state flow-
er of florida. orange trees were first grown in southern asia. during the
middle ages the plant was introduced into europe, where the spaniards
cultivated it. they later brought it with them to americans. today, the
states of florida and california cultivate orange trees in large groves, or-
ange orchards are endangered when the temperature nears freezing. when
cold threatens the delicate trees, small fires are burned in the orchards to
keep the air about them above the freezing point.​
