20th CENTURY FASHION
A. Before the First World War fashions did not change very quickly. Men wore dark suits.
They had short hair and moustaches were popular. Women wore long dresses and they
had long hair. Under their dresses they wore stiff corsets. These gave women a very
narrow waist, but they were very uncomfortable.
B. In the Roaring Twenties dresses and hair became much shorter. People saw women’s
knees for the first time! Corsets disappeared. A straight figure with no waist or bust was
fashionable. For men, trousers with very wide legs became fashionable. They were called
Oxford bags.
C. In the 30th and 40th hair, dresses and coats became longer again. Men’s fashion didn’t
change very much. Men wore a suit, a tie and usually a hat, too. Moustaches were less
popular.
D. In the 1950s people were richer and teenagers spent a lot of money on clothes. For men
this was the age of a teddy boy. Teddy boys wore long jackets in very bright colours -
pink, orange and yellow - and very tight trousers called ‘drainpipes’. For women jumpers
and blouses with wide skirts and short socks were the fashion. Both men and women
wore ‘winklepicker’ shoes with long pointed toes. The women’s shoes had high stiletto
heels.
E. The 1960s saw a revolution in clothes. Everything changed. This was the time of the
mini-skirt and long boots. For the first time in the twentieth century men had long hair -
the famous Beatle haircut.
F. In the late 1960s and the early 70th the hippy ‘flower power’ style was in. Women wore
long maxi-skirts. Men wore jeans and brightly coloured shirts or T-shirts. Clothes were
very colourful. Very long hair was fashionable for men and women, and beards became
more common (only for men, of course).
G. The 80s brought teenagers with punk hairstyles in red, blue, purple and green, and
brightly coloured makeup.

In the centre of london was small but well-known restaurant bogle. if you like to eat cheap then you come to this restaurant. many rich people call this restaurant a dive bar. so it was always clean and cozy . tables and chairs are always missing .on each table there is a container with spices. the cash register sits bogle very unpleasant,evil ,cold , slow , and takes money from you.he always do not like something , very often dissatisfied with the weather and makes it all customers .visitors bogle were served by two waitresses and a voice.one of the waitresses name is eileen.she was tall,beautiful, friendly and chatty.the second waitress's name was tilda .was small ,ugly ,clumsy ,fat one .always tried to please everyone , but it did not work.many visitors especially men come in bogu to look at the beautiful eileen.they adored her. she was always invited to the theatre ,cinema.but she was not mind to go with someone to the theater or to

Courtesy этикет courtesy is a set of good manners which we use in everyday life. good manners and rules of behavior at home, work, transport or other places, are very important in modern society. even in ancient times people had to observe certain rules of conduct, which made their lives easier. a person is seen and evaluated through his behavior and communication with other people. if someone has a rich and beautiful inner world he or she demonstrates high level of social etiquette. sometimes when we simply say “hello! ” meeting people and “good bye! ” leaving, it shows our good manners. it is also necessary to use polite words in formal situations and when talking to strangers or elderly people. for men it is a good manner to let women go first. most people hold doors for the next visitor in stores, restaurants and other public places. young people ought to give place to older and disabled people in public transport. pregnant women and little children also have a priority in such situations. table manners are another important issue. while at formal dinners, people usually eat with fork and knife. soon after sitting down at the table it is correct to put a napkin on your lap. well-mannered people usually know the rules of table setting. when there is a variety of silverware in front of you, it’s a good idea to start with the knife, fork or spoon that is farthest from your plate. not everyone knows the rules of courtesy. there are also many people who have bad manners. for example, they talk or laugh loudly in public places, which is not acceptable. they litter in the streets or cause inconvenience to other people. they stare at people they don’t know and never say “sorry! ” or “thank you! ” such behavior should be avoided if we want to be a part of civilized society.
