The city of Nizhniy Novgorod was founded in 1221 by Prince Yuri Vsevolodovich to protect Russian borders. Nizhny Novgorod is the fifth most populous city in Russia. More than 1 mln. people live in it. Nizhniy Novgorod is an important industrial, economic, transport, scientific and cultural centre of the country.
It has more than 600 unique historical, architectural and cultural monuments. The Kremlin which is in the city centre is the main attraction in Nizhniy Novgorod. The city has got a lot of excellent places for rest and walking. You can walk along Verkhnevolzhskaya embankment – it offers a magnificent view of the great Russian river Volga on which the city is located. In addition, the city is very green and it has got many squares, gardens and parks such as Avtozavodskiy, "Switzerland", which is the largest among them, Sormovo, Kulibin, 1 May, "Oaks", "Shchelkovo farm" and others. The city is situated on the Volga river and the Oka river so Nizhniy Novgorod is the largest centre of river cruise tourism in Russia. A famous Russian writer Maxim Gorky lived in this city so in 1932 Nizhniy Novgorod was named after Gorky but in 1991 it was renamed again to Nizhniy Novgorod.
In conclusion, I would like to say that the citizens of Nizhniy Novgorod always treat their city with great respect and love.
